George Carlin: Another Dead American Hero
I knew the day was coming, but it's a sad day all the same.
George Carlin dead at 71. I hope he and Bill HIcks are already together drinking bourbon like fishes.

I was extremely sad to hear this news; I was driving to work on Monday morning when I heard. I didn't have time to weep, or even to have the quintessential American Monday morning heart attack because, you know, the traffic light changed.
When I went to lunch, and later when I drove home, though, I heard an XM station playing non-stop material from the man I first knew as the Class Clown. Then and only then did I remember the medium of his message. I didn't cry; I laughed like the fool I am.
A genius has left our midst, but he has also left a deep and wide body of material to entertain us, and for us to consider.

I honestly would feel just a LITTLE better about it if I knew there were young comics who were intent to tread in the paths of comedian/philosophers like Bill Hicks and Carlin....
Unfortunately I think we instead get Carrot Top. Kind of representative of the direction of the culture as a whole I think....
